Mike,
I was unsure up to now what the issue was regarding the chip. I was just reading the posts, and was too lazy to go get my chip guide. If I my understanding is correct, that this is not an actual chip from the casino, then the auction is deceptive (intentional or not).
I do not say that to attack Josh. I have met him, and like him. Nor am I basing that on the old issue, which I did not regard as a big deal (although poor judgement). Nor do I chastise you for your loyalty to a friend. I know full well the quality of friend you are.
Buyer Beware is good advice, but the law goes further. And if I bought the chip, I would be inclined to take action if I hadn't known. It is not the buyer's responsibility to ascertain if it is real, it is the seller's burden to disclose.
The fact that ebay is a quagmire of legal ambiguity doesn't serve as a valid justification. There are a rash of lawsuits resulting from ebay auctions, and that isn't the only legal issue that ebay, or its sellers face.
All that it takes is a disclaimer that this is not an actual chip issued by a Las Vegas Casino.
