Not many from outfielders with Burrell hitting
most of them. Lack of home runs was not the Phillies problem though. Most of the HR came from the infield. Good HR production from 1B, 2B & SS.
I have not looked up the statistics but I do not think any team had a combined total from those positions that was better than the Phillies.
The main problem was pitching. Starting pitching especially early in the year and relief pitching especially late in the year. They were near the top in runs scored but ranked at the top of runners left on base. There were way too many strikeouts and called third stikes. The hitting with runners in scoring position was pathetic. Note, Lieberthal was one of the worst offenders
in this area.
There were only two players the Phillies lost I would have liked to see back, Delucci(sp) & Wolf. I'm just hoping now for a couple of decent relievers.
Laugh away Chuck, I'll still keep rooting for my Phillies.
