Tuesday's New York papers heralded the news that the Turning Stone Casino and Resort had lost its last appeal in a case brought in New York State Courts when the U.S. Supreme Court declined to review NY court actions. In a nutshell when the Casino was formed it was approved by then Governor Cuomo but did not receive approval by the state legislature. An action was brought in a New York state court to declare the operation illegal and to secure a shut down; the trial judge ruled against the Casino as did the appellate courts (including the New York Court of Appeals). So what happens? Does Turning Stone employing thousands of people shut its doors? Not a chance. Although the Indian officials are saying publicly that the State has no jurisdiction from what I can see they do but what will have to happen is for the N.Y. Legislature to enter into a new compact with TS. It is beyond imagination that with Seneca and Mohawk casinos in place that the legislature would deny a compact with the Oneidas. The local non-Indian "neighbors" have fought this casino from before its beginnings and won't give up until all the legal dust is settled.

But maybe you'd better get your TS chips now before the operation is closed to make way for an Oneida city dump and the chips become extraordinarily valuabl
