I find the fact that a man could tip a half mil, and it not be given a second look. But presuming it is true, or if it is even a lesser, but still substancial amount, then it doesn't surprise me the family asked for it back. It also does not surprise me that Wynn quickly and quietly returned it out of his pocket.
If a person is sufficietly incompetent, and turns over a substancial (and out of the ordinary) sum to another the courts would quite possible order it returned. Win or lose, it looks bad, and it is better to do as you suggested he in fact did. And he would probably get it back. If it ultimately survives all challenges (which it has so far), some casinos will do it.
