My opinion is that, although I'm able and willing to go to any Nevada chips show, there are many more shows than there used to be. Some years there was the Club Convention and maybe one other show (usually Bill Akeman's) and that was it. There was great anticipation of every show since it might have been a year since your last chip "fix". Now there are typically 5-7 shows a year. Not every collector is motivated or able to attend so many.
A chip auction like Doug's, even if it's not connected to the sponsors of the chip show, should be a positive. This year, Doug mentioned he held it on Wednesday rather than the day before the show to avoid conflict with show events (tournament). Show sponsors should welcome Doug, Howdy, or anyone else who wants to do a live auction immediately before or after a show as a way to get more chippers to come to town. The schedule this year required 4 days in town to take in both the auction and chip show (W, Th, F, and S).
