I think the chip with the higher table wear is just dirty. If you look at the hats, you can see the gold coloring is better. I haven't cleaned it at all. For this chip, I don;t plan to.
I agree with you on the possibility of the pressure of the die stamping in this case. However, even if this is the case, the end result produced a hot stamp that is very different. If the entire issue is done in this fashion, resulting in a deeper and wider stamp, then consideration should be given to those chips getting a different number. After all, the reasons that they are different doesn't change the fact that they are indeed still different.
This wouldn't be the case for these chips simply because of the LCV vs SCV. That aside, I would still consider these two chips to have a different stamp.
