"The old boys want to keep the hobby status quo. If that's how you envision our hobby, it’s future, and believe LE’s are the only way to go, keep the clique’s alive."
That collection of statements didn't make any sense. The "status quo" is old house chips are selling for record figures under the current BOD leadership (just ask Doug Saito). LE's bring new collectors into the hobby by virtue of curiosity and cross-collectiblity. "keep the clique's (sp) alive." ?1? There is one large "clique", and it is the club. There are a few smaller "cliques", and those appear to be composed of a handful of people who don't get along with most of society in general.
"Many of these old timers are just jealous and dislike individuals that aggressively purchase expensive chips. They don’t want anything to change because they will be long forgotten."
Huh? That doesn't make any sense either. Many of these old timers have the chips that you and other "aggressive" buyers want. ...and I'm sure they'll have no problem being "long forgotten" after you've bought their chips.
"It so obvious, with the escalation in price, they can’t keep up. They are fearful when new serious collectors with funds to invest or speculate, enter the hobby, they will be just old news."
More nonsense. Spend all you want.
"This is a great hobby. It’s needs energy. Don’t turn your head on people that want change and wish to make this hobby as exciting as any collectible hobby out there. Anyone that has gone to recent chip shows knows the attendance is down and so are sales. You continue to leave it to the guys currently in charge, it will only get worse. Let's shake the tree!"
A couple thoughts. 1st, as long as this hobby remains a hobby and doesn't turn into an industry, I have no problem with what prices any chips bring. 2nd, the Palms show last weekend had the best attendance and dealer participation of any non-convention show I've ever see. I wasn't a dealer, so I can't speak to sales, but if you had chips that weren't LE's that weren't moving well, perhaps you over-valued them. After all, when you are willing to pay more than anyone else for chips, how can you expect a quick return on your investment? And how does any of that relate to the current or probable future BOD of the club?
