Almighty then, my fine group of chip aficionados.......Here is the question of the day.
Presented in the scan below are two chips from Ed's Tahoe Nugget. The Chip Rack offers one number. Upon close inspection of the two aforementioned chips, I came to the following conclusions:
1. These chips have clearly differing amounts of table wear. This is obvious in the color, crosshatching and edges.
2. The chips appear to have dramatic differences in the thickness of the hot stamp lettering. The lettering on the right seems significtly thicker, which I feel would still appear obvious even if it had similar table wear as the chip on the left.
My conclusion is that one of the chips was a reorder. I would not assume that just because the chip on the right is in much better condition that the condition would dictate the age. Either one could be older. We all know that amount of table use is not a reflection of a chip's actual age or issue.
For your consideration: would you personally feel an additional TCR number would be in order? Would you designate one as "thick letters" and the other "thin letters"?
