Yes, and at what point do you notify people? When the rain starts, when there are puddles in the lot, when the water is 2 inches deep, when the water is just about to enter the cars? Then if the rain stops and no cars get damaged the hotel gets a black ey for crying wolf.
As far as people to blame, let's not forget other patrons who were awake at the time and made no effort to warn others. They were contributory to your loss as they sould have mitigated damage but did nothing.
When it is all said and done even if the hotel was liable the costs in time and trouble will be greater than just paying the deductable and going on with life.
I have to agree with you David, it would piss me off too but it ain't worth an ulcer over! When you fight a bear sometimes the bear wins.
