The El Rey & Willie Martello in "Tonight for Sure"

"Tonight for Sure" was a nudie-cutie film from 1962 (filmed in 1960/61).

It is listed as one of the earliest directorial debuts from legendary director Francis Ford Coppola. However this film is actually the joining of two short films, "The Peeper" (by Coppola) and "Wide Open Spaces" (by Jerry Schafer). Coppola was hired to edit the two projects into one feature length film and liked the idea of seeing his name on screen so much, so early in his career, that he named himself director of the entire project.

The Schafer film, "Wide Open Spaces", was made entirely in Searchlight, Nevada and at least two scenes prominently feature the El Rey Casino.

I've posted edited clips of the two scenes at my weblog as well as a review of the film. Read through other blog posts (linked within the post with the videos) for more info about the film, as well as other facts I've learned while researching my upcoming book about The El Rey Resort & Casino.

To purchase your own copy of the film, which has some beautiful footage of 1960's Searchlight landscapes (and some classic early nudes. LOL) head on over to www.somethingweird.com

This blog post will remain active indefinitely, but I may have to take down the videos to prevent my server from crashing, or worse...my having to spend a little extra dough for more downloads. ;)
