This was my 'cross interest'.
As you are probably aware, the majority of 'colonial' banknotes and stamps from around 1860 to 1920 were produced by De La Rue.
The 'engine turned' (their own definition) backgrounds to 'value tablets' were often shared for bank notes, stamps, revenue receipts etc. and in fact if you look at printings done at the same time for different british colonies you will find the only thing that varies is the name of the colony. Common dies were used for everything else. Hence, 'proofs' for stamps were often printed on banknote paper.
