Two day license suspension for Dunedin Casino

Dunedin Casino, Dunedin, New Zealand has received a two day license suspension for not recognizing and helping a problem gambler.

Over a three year period a woman lost NZ $6.6 million (US $4,369,200) at the casino, NZ $500,000 (US $331,000) of which she stole from her employer.

She sold her house, cashed in her retirement account, and included the money from a divorce settlement, all of which she lost at the casino.

The license suspension would have been longer, but casino ownership changed hands, and gambling license laws regarding problem gamblers were changed, both during the period she was losing the NZ $6.6 million.
