Hi folks,
I am pretty new to chip collecting. I recently bought an obsolete chip in new condition from a website. I paid $49 for it, which is on the high range of the Chip Rack Value. When I received it, I noticed that it was definately in new condition, but on one side there was some type of residue, kind of like glue around the edges of the inlay. In one spot, it seems, but I can't be sure, like the inlay was slightly offset from where it should go on the chip. Meaning, it seems like a small part of the inlay was slightly higher than the chip surface. Sorry its hard to describe. It seems to me that either the chip was glued to something or the inlay was re-glued on.
Since it looked pefect in the filp, I believe it was an honest mistake and the seller probably didn't know about it. I e-mailed the seller and he gratiously offered to refund my money. I told him, I really liked the chip, if I keep it can I get a credit, which he then offered $10 credit.
My questions are:
Is this residue considered "damage" and what does this do to the value of the chip?
If I decide to keep it, should I try to clean this residue off or would I risk damaging the chip further.
Sorry about the long post. Any advice would be appreciated.
Regards,
Greg
