Unless you're coming from California, Vegas isn't cheap. In my opinion the two best places to live in town are Summerlin and Henderson (Green Valley / Seven Hills). They are on opposite sides of town from each other and are both expensive. Incidentally there's a PF Changs in the middle of both of them. The housing market is slowing but a modest home will still cost you several hundreds of thousands of dollars depending on the square footage. Apartments are reasonable in both places if that's what you're looking for. If you don't like the price there are some alternatives. Instead of Summerlin you can go for North Las Vegas. It's cheaper and if you pick the right spot it can be just as good. On the other side of town you can look in older Henderson around Foothill High School on your way to Boulder City. Again prices are more reasonable and if you pick the right spot it works just as well.
