Hi, "J", the chip companies used to make some beautiful cheques. In the mid 1970's through the mid 80’s I experienced the color changes.
The inserts were design characteristics, and were primarily used as a tool for primitive camera systems, and old Bino Cat-walks.
If you look at the 12 edition Sands house cheques, they were very simple and easy to read from the side.
In the mid 70’s those cheques look dramatically different. A full set of Sands Bacc. Cheques in 1975 had 36 different colors, to make up 6 cheques.
I don’t know why the American casinos have moved toward simple designs, and pasted on inlays. Probably has something to do with cost. They do design low denomination cheques, so that people will take them as souvenirs. The profit could be as high as 80% on a nickel cheque?
I don’t know, but they were not always ugly.
I like the shinny acrylic stuff as well, but I am also tired of paying thousands of dollars for those beautiful old cheques.
All of these GN house cheques were manufactured by T.R. King.
