1. Las Vegas Club-nice sized rooms (comped), and love the progressive 5cent video poker. From the right room, you can get a relatively decent view looking out over the strip.
2. Plaza-before the FSE, it was my #1 choice because of the view. I've spent many hours sitting at the windows just gazing over Fremont St. They have progressive VP machines, too. I remember one night I was sitting at the window looking out and I saw something coming down Fremont St., but couldn't figure out what it was. As it got closer, I could see it was a convertible, being pulled behind a pickup truck, with an escort of motorcycle cops. The procession drove into the entrance of the Plaza. I headed for the elevator, hoping to see someone famous in the lobby. When I got downstairs, the procession was sitting in front of the hotel and Billy Ray Cyrus was waving to the people who were starting to gather. I wasn't a fan, and I thought it looked stupid to have the car being pulled by the truck...so I wandered off into the casino to lose more money.
3. Riviera-We love old Vegas, and the Riv is the nicest of the older properties on the strip.
4. Stardust-Love the old neon sign, great history (Tony C. had it almost ready to open when he dropped dead playing craps at the DI...), like this end of the strip.
5. Golden Nugget-love the Carson Street Cafe (though prices have been going up and quality has been going down over the last few years )
6. Horseshoe-would have been higher up under Jack's management. Becky ruined it, she's out of it now, but it'll never be what it was.
7. Golden Gate
8. La Bayou-just because of the address. The property was the first in LV to receive a gaming license in 1931 (Northern Club). This was the location of Wilbur Clarks first LV casino (Monte Carlo).
9. Main Street Station-I think Bob Snow did a great job when he remodelled the casino in 1990-91.
10. California Hotel
(I know, Vegas will never be what it was...and I still love Vegas, but I wish I could go back to the 50's and 60's and experience the excitement and the "glamour"---and grab a few chips to bring back to the present! )
