On the few pieces that are in their original state of preservation, you can easilly see the back-to-back interlaced (overlapping) top and bottom portion of each C.

The die-cut inlay is like no other die-cut known to me; being highly engraved (similar to what's seen in a pearl monogram, but more intricate; elaborate detail).
