I hope it continues to be hot. However the ratings on TV have started to level off. The rate of growth is not as sharp as it has been. Poker could be finding its level, and will continue to be at the plane they are at or higher.
Or- like live comedy in the 80's, it could plunge, or even slowly go down. Live comedy does real well in Vegas, but in the 80's there were clubs all over the place, and they were packed. Then all of a sudden tastes changed and it collapsed. First signs were television ratings.
I love playing poker, there is nothing like catching a third queen on the river to beat Kings all in. But there are those that raise the issue. And it is also possible that some of the current influx of interest in the hobby is attached to the influx of interest in Poker.
Lot of the new poker players are internet and young. What happens if the feds find a way around, or simply ignore (and the courts ignore) our international committments, and begin prosecuting on line poker (there have been a couple of arrests of on line gaming operators lately). What happens when the young generation get married have kids, and find new interests.
Part of what happened to comedy clubs and cigar bars, and other entertainment movements in the last 30 years.
