I guess not everyone read my earlier posts yesterday.
I had one drilled chip repaired by Whalen on behalf of the club, as part of our 'investigation'.
I had the inlays swapped on two Borland commemorative chips as I wanted to see if the alteration was visible to the naked eye. It was.
In addition, Whalen gave me a 'half fixed' chip to help with our research. He also sold me 5 altered brass cores which he had made for customers who then declined them. I did not ask for these chips, he offered them to me.
The total value of the 8 chips above is about $100
I have had no other chips altered or repaired by Whalen or anyone else. Neither have I knowingly bought any altered or repaired chips from anyone.
All the above 'transactions' took place at Arcadia, in April 2005. Although I have met with Whalen 3 times since then, I have done no business with him.
Now this bit is funny. A suggestion had been made to Whalen that when he repaired chips he could maybe inscribe or punch a 'W' into the edge.
In the case of the 3 chips I asked him to work on, I requested that he did so.
He did not do it. When I asked him why, his response was:
"Not much point. The next guy is just going to bring it back to me and ask me to fill the 'W' in again"
