... and watching for stray bullets because my website took more hits than Baghdad!
There is a site called stumble.com or something like that where you find websites common to your interest and with 10,000++ pictures and names I fit the bill for all kinds of searches. Plus I use medium to large pictures.
Next the AsianBookie.com picked up Terry Shaffer's videos "Gambling Guru" which are very large (reason I hosted them for Terry). With that name "Gambling Guru" on a bookie site with a chat room I got overwhelmed.
Also I sold about 100 banknotes on eBay where I hosted the pictures and saved the 15¢ (Bad call) and those pictures got a lot of hits.
Add to the mix that I have been posting more on the chipboard with the "Chipper Friends" link at the bottom of my posts. I got a large amount of hits from people browsing (You can browse a LONG time with the number of pictures I had).
Add the banknote of the day hits with the normal traffic I get and it adds up.... BIGTIME.
The main thing that blew me away was the AsianBookie picking up the Gambling Guru video clip and zillions clicking on it. Everything else just added to the already overloaded wagon.
I have shutdown everything until next month when I will turn the site back on. I am looking for some scripting to shutdown/block a file from too many downloads (like 10 and hour then it blocks for an hour). I am not sure if it is possible but I have a guy smarted than me looking into it.
I did get a web statistics (not a freebie) program that lets you see well what is happening and by who and when.
GoDaddy was real sympathetic as they picked my pocket. The techs were very helpful; everyone else needs a Draino enema. I am still wanting to have a website but realize my wallet is open in doing so. I am cautious and gun-shy still and may change my mind at any time. Anyway, $1400.00 lighter, much smarter, still pissed, but putting it behind me….
