The Way Slabbing Has Been Done
In Response To: Slabbing?? ()

up to this time is a despicable marketing practice. Unscrupulous sellers put a $2 or $3 chip into a slab, give it a fancy grade and attempt to sell it for $10 or more to the unwary.

We are correct to be against such practices. However, some seem to make this a quasi-religious commitment. They deny that there might be some chips of higher value that would warrant professional authentication, as is done in numismatics. Slabbing has be very worthwhile there in exposing counterfeits and coins that have been altered through cleaning or repair.

At this time it does not seem that the slabbing is done by knowledgeable authenticators, but those who oppose it in principle seem to have a closed mind. The question also arises why the most ardent oppose review of what they may be selling?
