Today’s note was a random selection and is a NEWLY issued 20 Patacas note in August of 2005 from Macau (Pronounced “Mee Kawl”). Colonized by the Portuguese in the 16th century, Macau was the first European settlement in the Far East. Pursuant to an agreement signed by China and Portugal on 13 April 1987, Macau became the Macau Special Administrative Region (SAR) of China on 20 December 1999. China has promised that, under its "one country, two systems" formula, China's socialest (MisSpelled to get by Greg's Naughty Word filter Thought I would NEVER find it ) economic system will not be practiced in Macau, and that Macau will enjoy a high degree of autonomy in all matters except foreign and defense affairs for the next 50 years as well as retain its own currency. It is a small island located only 35 miles southwest of main land China. Text is written in English, Chinese, and Mandarin. On the front of the note is displayed the National Macau Airport terminal building at right, airplane on the runway and control tower at left. The back features the National Banco of Ultramarino (BNU). It has a segmented silver security thread and is watermarked. This note is UNC and not in the book yet so there is no ‘book value’ established. ENJOY
