It seems that at least two Coast Casino properties (The Orleans and Gold Coast) have upgraded their TITO/bill validators. The upgrade did not happen overnight, but appears to have happened within a 48 hour period.
During the upgrade, the newer validators were tagged with special visual flags that indicated that only special, red-barred TITOs would work with the slot machine, while the older (non- red-barred TITOs) would not work. (A simalr tagging was done on all the to-be-upgraded machine, showing that only the older TITOs would work in them.)
As I indicated, at The Orleans, the overall change-out (on all their slot machines) happened over a 48 hour or so period of time. Once the change-out was complete, all the little tags were removed.
Since the red-bars are not printed by the validator (they are instead actually printed onto the TITOs) and the red-bars were only needed to alert customers that non- red-barred TITOs would not work in the newer validators.
But that differentiation is no longer needed, however The Orleans still has excess red-barred blanks still on-hand. Slot attendants have been to told to exhaust current supplies of red-barred TITOs first, and then go back to using the original (non- red-barred) TITOs.
So, this TITO will need to be carried as a "variation" to The Orleans entry in Jim Noll's TITO guide. I do not have examples from the other Coast Casino properties.
