Tonight's banknote selection is in honor of the late Steve Irwin. It is a 2001 issue $100.00 Australian Dollar in current use today. Ateve would have handled some of these just a short time ago. This particular note was hand carried back to me by my niece when she was studying Marine Biology at John Cook University and dove on the Great Barrier Reef and near where Steve lost his life.
Australia uses all Polymer (Plastic) notes now since they wear, sort, and are more difficult to counterfeit. They were leaders in this technology and other countries soon followed. Mobil Oil (my old employer) made a product called DuraNote (sheet plastic for currency printing) for countries going to the new polymer notes.
This note features an Opera Stage at left, Dame Nellie Melba at center, and a stylized peacock OVD in the transparent window at the lower right (appears white in my scan). The back displays Sir John Monash, a WWI scene and insignia. I. Macfarlane and A.A. Evans signed this note. It also uses UV coding. It is UNC and has a book value of $115.00 USD ENJOY
