Got back from Munding's Reno show this afternoon and decided to start cataloguing the chips I acquired Friday and Saturday. Somehow, I'm lucky enough to have gotten a pretty nice Bank Club Reno collection off the ground. Picked this one at a very nice price from Dean and Jodi, the Casino Collectibles folks. It's speckled. Kewl. I was going to say this is for the new collectors who might not have seen one before but then I realized at R-7, probably not a lot of people have seen one outside of the punters at the Bank Club. I think I saw one once at one of the conventions. I'm guessing this is one of those chips that stays in a collection and doesn't come out on the market much. Compared to the example C/W shows, this 1940 issue might be pretty representative, I envy the collector who has an SU five w/o the burns, a strong HS and shiney diamonds. Well, I don't mind the burns at all.
So...my question! Any imput on the history of speckled chips? Refresh my memory on any other instances of these beasties. Is this the only mold manufacturer that did this trick? BTW, no spots on the edge, only the obverse and reverse. Would certainly welcome any comment.
Later I may post of the trip my Richard Fellman sighting (!), Gena Rowlands stalking me all Saturday night, the Nitwit family reunion, finding Zimba's and canvasing town for everyone who worked at the Nevada Club.
