If you already have more than one room key, when they issue you a new one, make sure that you understand that any of the old ones will stop working and you will need to replace all of them. Since you will then have all of the working room keys, you will need to get one to the other people in your party BEFORE they find out their key no longer works.
Is say "BEFORE" because, if you are not quick enough, once their key stops working, it is not unknown for that person to go to the front desk, compalin about the key not working, getting a new key and then your new keys suddenly won't work.
If you and your guest are at odds with each other, this is a wonderful way to make it worse!
Unless of course the place has a policy of only re-issuing keys to the registered guest.
