And to buy a house here is better than money in the bank. Even better than GOLD. There are some deals to be had here. I knew a guy that wanted to send his daughter to UCSB but housing was way to high and the Dorms were out of the question. Tuition was alot too. He bought a house outside of Isla Vista in a place called Goleta (*part of Santa Barbara County) His daughter and quite a few others students lived there during the four years and paid him rent at a decent rate but less than next to the University. Daughter graduated, He then sold the house and had more than enough money to repay all his daughters school loans and her College was FREE. Ahh the power of real estate gotta love that!! Not many investments would have paid all of that with cash left over.
