Believe it or not, I agree with you..
In the past I have voiced my opinion on slabbing. Even recently, I've stated that I feel it is poison to the hobby. However I am not that stubbornly narrow minded to ignore the possibilities of future impact, of not allowing slabbing. We may very well see the day when slabbed chips carry the most value and attraction.
My biggest concerns about slabbing, are as follows.
1. Concealment of fakes and repairs.
2. Individuals conducting the grading process.
This is not "yet" the same as coin collecting where there are thousands upon thousands of experts. In comparison, chip collecting is relatively infant, with only a handful of qualified experts.
I believe the only way slabbing chips would work, is that if the individuals conducting the process where trained properly. We have guys in this hobby that can do this, but getting them to do it, well, that's a whole different story.
If a professional grading service were to prove to me, that their in house "chip" grader(s) have passed all the neccessary skill requirements, I too will request to have my name removed from the anti-slabbing list.
How do we define [neccessary skill requirements]?
For those of you pro the issue, this would be a project worth looking into. Defining neccessary skill requirements. You gotta have something to bring to the dance floor.
Just one man's opinion..
