The Stardust opened in 1958, and is scheduled to close at the end of 2006
The Stardust was to be Tony Cornero's third attempt at Nevada casino ownership. Alas, it was not to be. With the Stardust a few months away from completion, Tony collapsed and died while shooting craps at the Desert Inn. Some say it was a heart attack. Others wonder why there was no autopsy and why the glass he'd been drinking from couldn't be found...
This was the old Stardust sign
We saw the Lido de Paris show, which included an act by Sigfried and Roy. I kept my program for awhile, as a souvenir...and threw it away when I was packing to move.
Think Tony would recognize his Stardust?
If I'm remembering right, the black plates were on the tables just one time at a special dinner. But I don't remember the occasion.
more stuff...
I got the idea for this series of posts from a group of pamphlets that was published by the late Jim Gellette. He did the first 13 resorts on the strip, and I'm too lazy to research which resort was number 14...so this is my last post in this series. I hope you've enjoyed seeing some of our collectibles from the early Strip casinos .
