Your opinion is just as valid as mine and well taken. And it's okay to disagree. The air-tight reference was meant to be a joke.
I can tell you I was recently offered a reproduced chip by one of the so-called experts (fellow collectors) in the hobby that you allude to that clearly should have known better. I still stand by my opinion that a RARE / EXPENSIVE chip needs to be authenticated, graded, and then sealed for protection. That an Independent Outside (the hobby) service with no axe to grind would be better suited than within the hobby.
We could always debate the inclusion of pricing in the two repsected chip guides? That is a whole other kettle of fish to fry!!
In closing, I respect your opinion, I just don't agree with it. At least we are both on the same page and wish to protect the integrity of the hobby in some form for the protection of all.
