I have been looking for a top load scanner. You can see what you are scanning. HP made the 4600 and the 4670. They have both been discontinued. They have not been replaced yet, But both had good reviews. Go Figure.
I think it's Cannon that makes one that scans both sides at once.

Does anyone use one they can recommend. Barry
