Rockin’ Red Head
Former Van Halen front man and Cabo Wabo tequilero Sammy Hagar has made many appearances in Las Vegas, but this one was something special, with a two-day tequila-infused concert bash set to take place at Caesars Palace under the stars of the outdoor pavilion. That was before 65-mile-an-hour winds had their say, forcing the cancellation of the Friday night concert. While the gods may not have been smiling on Friday night, they were certainly sipping Wabo-ritas and singing along on Saturday night when the concert was moved indoors to the air-conditioned (!) special events pavilion. Disappointed ticket holders from the cancelled show were given tickets to the Saturday night performance, ensuring the packed house of thousands got their money’s worth. As Hagar and former VH band mate Michael Anthony ripped through hit after hit, the crowd went crazy, seemingly not caring that the loyal collection of Red Heads had to wait one more night to get their Sammy fix. Backstage, a select group of high powered locals included the one and only, ‘Big Flamingo’ Don Marrandino, restaurant mover and shaker Elizabeth Blau, celebrity chef Michael Mina and local restaurant partner (okay fine, country music star) Toby Keith.
