There's a lot of interesting information at the site linked below.
Here's some of our El Rancho Vegas stuff... gotta love that sign-Check out as late as you want on Sunday!
Why the broken cup and saucer? Most people would consider it junk (o.k. it is junk ), but there's a story with it!
When we buy the old stuff, we sometimes ask where the seller got the item. A few times we got the answer "Oh, there's this guy that brings stuff in. He goes out to the dump at Sunrise Mountain and digs it up. Most of the time all he finds is stuff that's broken...after all, it IS a dump. Once in awhile he comes up with something good. That's how I knew the (item) was from 1951 or earlier. That dump was only used for a few months in 1951." One time, after receiving that answer, one of the "diggers" happened to wander in to the shop. We talked to him for awhile, then my husband asked how to get to the dump. A few days later we went to the dump.
We'd been warned to wear heavy boots, but all we had was sneakers. We'd also been warned that you had to be careful, a lot of old barrels were in the dump and they were rusty and if you stepped on one you could break through it and get a nasty gash. We hadn't been there long before my husband found the broken ERV cup with the logo intact, and I picked up the broken saucer with part of the logo. Then I picked up a broken and rusty old license plate with the date 1951. We were (carefully) wandering around looking for "treasure" when my husband noticed that the wind had picked up and the sky was starting to look stormy. We didn't want to risk getting caught in a rainstorm or flash flood, so we left. Another chapter in the "Adventures of a Collector" .
My husband, standing on a pile of treasures that are just waiting to be found!
