As the story goes...
Thomas Hull owned hotels in California. He was traveling on the L.A. Highway, near Las Vegas, and had car problems. While waiting for help he counted all the cars going past on the highway. It was hot and he was thirsty and would have loved to be able to jump into a swimming pool. That was the vision that started "The Strip". In 1941, 10 years after gambling was legalized in Nevada, the El Rancho Vegas opened on Highway 91.
