About four months ago, I started experiencing VERY frustrating problems with Norton AV. After fussing away hours, I blew it out and loaded Trend Micro Antivirus. So far it has been flying straight and level - no problems at all. It is very user friendly. I know you mentioned "free", but often product rebates can be found which make the software nearly free.
