When the 15-story hotel opened in 1956 it was the tallest building in Las Vegas. KSHO tv had a studio at the Fremont and the station's transmitting tower was on the roof.

Wayne Newton, with his brother Jerry, began appearing at the Fremont in 1959. I believe he was 15 years old at the time, too young to be in the casino area.

I love some of the old "mascots", and Freddy Fremont is one of 'em.
