Definitely go to Downtown Las Vegas it's a very interesting experience especially at night when the Fremont Experience is running.

When I went in June 2004 during the day the Downtown streets and casinos were practically empty! The only casino that was really filled with Gamblers and bussling with activity was the Golden Nugget. I was expecting Downtown to be as busy as the strip but apparently I was wrong.
