I agree with you that you will see an increased frequency per hour with on-line play.
I also agree with what Don said too. A lot of looser play on-line means you will see more sucks out. Combined that theory with the accelerated hands per hour, then you have what appears to be a screwed up dealing system.
Again just pulling some of what I've seen from my own personal play... the $3/$6 game here at the brick-and-mortar casinos in Kansas City are suck-out city. Almost every hand you see someone catching their miracle card on the turn or river. It's because we have 8 players seeing the flop, 6 seeing the turn, and river. Pots are huge but you have to play the no-foldem-holdem game to win. It's amazing how many people complain that AA or KK doesn't hold up and then they go broke cause they don't change up their style for the game being played. I'm not saying you are a person who falls in this group. Just telling you what I've see at regular casinos too. In the local $3/$6 game, I NEVER raise with AA or KK - that is unless I'm first in the pot and feel I can cut the players down. Even then in the games here in KC, you still get 8 people who see the flop if you raise from early position. I play those hands like a baby pair and pray I catch a trip on the flop cause I know it's not going to hold up. I find myself hoping to get any suited connectors so that I can have a drawing chance at the pot because they are so big.
I'm frankly too scared to play medium or higher stakes on-line because of the potential for cheating. I do like the $1/$2 no-limit game where I can see lots of flops cheaply and then be able to push money in the pot to try to out-price the draws or at least make them pay a premium to chase me down. I love watching the players who call of most of their stack with top pair and crummy kickers too. When I see a player do that (against me or a different player), I make notes on that player with the note feature of the Pokerstars GUI to keep track of the players who will pay you off when you finally get in a hand against them. Doesn't mean they might not suck out on you though!
Sorry to hear of your recent bad luck. I think any poker player that is honest with themselves will admit when they are going through a tough period. I've had bad streaks too. All good players do. Keep you head up and keep playing good poker. It will turn around.
