Many of us scour flea markets, swap meets, antique stores, yard, garage and estate sales looking for hidden gems that are mislabeled, under-valued or just considered junk by others. Always looking for that Z chip in a box of generics.

I’m not compulsive about this because I rarely find chips and I seldom collect companion pieces such as matchbooks, coasters and menus anymore. I do have a few favorite places to check where I consider the odds are above average to find something/anything and one of them is a local street fair in Seattle.

My last visit was a good one. Richard, always the first stop, had a box of vintage casino items I'd never seen or even considered before. I came home with small box of vintage slot wheel decals produced by Miller and Calkins of Spokane, WA. Not only are there famous Nevada casinos in the lot, but some of the decals and proofs had production dates from the 60's. Sweet!

I spoke with a number of vintage slot sellers and restorers around the country and I believe these pieces to be scarce. Miller and Calkins possibly specialized in short runs. They produced the silk screened casino logos and what I've been told to be replacement decals. Replacement decals were used to adjust the payouts on individual slots. If a slot was too loose, change the mechanics and add a lemon to where the cherry was and vice versa. In either case, the numbers needed would be small. Miller and Calkins is out of business so the research continues on them.

The following is where I try to get my money back as Richard wouldn't budge on his price. I must say, all these decals offered are as found. I didn't alter any groupings to create more inventory.
