In the UK there is currently a court case which will decide whether we can play live poker anywhere we choose. Currently in the UK, Poker can only be played for money or prizes of monetary value in Casinos (which you have to be a member of), Private Members Clubs (which you have to be a member of) or at home, whilst there is no restriction at all in playing online. The Gutshot poker club in London is currently being prosecuted for running poker games without the correct casino licences. The whole case hinges on whether it can be proved, as the gutshot are arguing, that poker is a game of skill (unlike roulette, craps, keno etc) as the UK gaming laws only cover games of chance, which poker is currently lumped into. As there are no restrictions on playing games of 'skill' for money should the gutshot win the case it could pave the way for poker rooms to open in the UK outside of casinos and members clubs.
Strange how in the USA its going the way
