The El Rey Club/El Rey Resort
Located on the east side of Highway 95, opened in 1946 by the Martello brothers. Willie Martello had his picture on chip inlays, coasters, and ashtrays from the Club. In January, 1962 the Club burned down. The club was rebuilt, this time on the west side of Hwy. 95, and this time Willie was in partnership with Warren "Doc" Bayley. Somewhere along the line, the club became a "Resort", as seen on the chip below. The Resort closed in 1973.
This postcard shows the rebuilt club, on the west side of the highway.
There should be an ashtray in this shot, but I can't find in the organized confusion that makes up our collection....
