If you've looked at eBay recently, you may have seen all the Mother of Pearl pieces (nacre) from South America that this fellow is listing. I bought a few to see what they're like and was very pleased with what I received. I don't know much about this kind of gaming piece but they sure are attractive. Joe says these are from 1920's and 30's. Not all the casinos he mentions and illustrates are in The Gaming Table, but that may just be because they are old and far away.
The small purple piece says 5 $ ORO on the other side, which I assume refers to a $5 gold piece. Does anyone have further info about gaming in Uruguay in those days and know whether it was common to wager in gold coin?
