It wasn't certain chosen individuals. It was simply that anyone in their third year could apply for life membership, even if they hadn't reached the end of the third year. Gene could have become a life member long before the increase, so what's the difference if he did so right before the increase took effect? It is inevitable if you have life membership that certain people will benefit from it, while others won't. I have read all of the arguments, and it still seems like a very small issue and one that in no way makes me rethink my decision to join the club. Life gets more expensive year after year. I would expect club dues to increase once in awhile. I don't care if people want to pay 10 years of their dues all at once. Have you tried to adjust the costs in the future to present value to see how much they are actually saving? It's not much. I just can't get worked up over it. I guess you can.
