The beginning of the end came in 1951 with Estes Kefauver.
The end of the end came in 1961 with Bobby Kennedy, George Ratterman (ex Cleveland Brown Quarterback and a little lady named April Flowers in Newport, KY.
Newport died a hard death after over 30 years of wide open casino gambling, murders, arson, and any kind of mayhem you can imagine. The Saturday Evening Post said Newport [population 35,000] had 150 casinos in 1960. How many do you think Las Vegas had in 1960? grin
