If I open Excel with new (blank) doc it takes about 7 seconds. If I then open a spreadsheet (either from "File" "Open" or from a shortcut it takes another 3 seconds)
If I open from a shortcut without Excel already open it takes 10 seconds.
Maybe you regard 3 and 7 seconds as 'instant'?
