David, I just came home with a new HP model 4890. This model has the exact same specs as the Epson. (4900x9600) ...and also has pretty similar features.

I already disconnected the epsonand old HP, so unless you have the same Wilbur Clark's Desert Inn chip that I showed in my comparison, I'd say hold off. I'll scan the same chip with the new HP and then display all three side by side.
