Alec - If you are interested in this hobby for the future resale value of the chips, you should choose another hobby. Chips that were once rare become common when a few racks of the chip show up 30 years later. This is not an entirely uncommon occurance. If you "...can't see collecting current day, new release or recently made chips." There is an easy solution for that problem... Don't do it.

Feel free to go after the older chips, they're great. However be sure to bring one thing with you on your hunt.... your checkbook, because you are going to need it.

Something to mull over.... All those older chips you think are neat were at one point "current day, new release or recently made chips" that some people thought as "junk".
