Re: Old Globe Saloon, Carson City Matchbook

Ya gotta' love old phone books! grin

1951 phone book shows:
Old Globe Saloon
410 N. Carson
phone: 505
1952 & 1955 have this same listing

1956 lists:
Old Globe Saloon
410 N. Carson
Phone: GR2-1816
1957 & 1963 have this same listing

1966 lists:
Old Globe Saloon
410 N. Carson
phone: 882-1816

I'd say your matchcover was somewhere from 1956-1966 vbg

I couldn't find Old Globe Saloon listed in the phone books for 1945 & 1950, but you said they'd been in business since the 1870's, sooooo... I looked for the address (thank goodness Carson City was tiny! grin ).
In 1945 & 1950 American Railway Express Agency, Inc. was listed at 410 N. Carson; phone 216 J.
In 1951, American Railway Express... had moved to Carson & Washington; phone 991-W.

In regards to gaming: In the 1952 yellow pages, they had a listing under "beer parlors". They weren't listed under Clubs, which most casinos were. They didn't have a separate ad.

In the 1963 yellow pages they were listed under "Taverns", no listing under Clubs or Cocktail Lounges, no separate ad.

In regards to Fuller showing them licensed at 407 Curry Street, I searched the 1955 & 1945 phone books for that address but couldn't find it. Most (if not all) addresses on Curry Street were residences, except for a couple of Doctors offices. I wonder if the owner of the Globe Saloon might have listed his home address on the gaming license? And didn't have a phone? Or had an unlisted phone?
