COME TO WORK OR GET FIRED.. YES FOR NEVADA'S RIGHT TO WORK LAWS.. Take this Job and Love it
Monday's walk-out/demonstration against potential immigration laws didn't have a huge effect on the many Strip properties that had contingency plans in place just in case. The Culinary Union Local 226 urged its members to find other ways to protest than not showing up for work. That's probably a good thing because with Nevada's 'Right to Work' laws the majority of them probably would have found themselves without jobs the next day. State labor laws essentially dictate that an employee can be fired for a good reason, a bad reason, or no reason at all. "Anyone who showed up and walked off the job was going to be fired," said one highly placed F&B staffer, adding that, "If someone called in sick and was able to obtain a doctors note, there isn't much we could have done, but barring that, the employee would most likely have been fired if they did not work today." When asked how many people showed up for regularly scheduled shifts the source answered immediately, "Pretty much everyone."
