The 4020 Club was at 4020 W. Ogden Ave. in Chicago, a mile from the start of the Mob gambling strip on Cermak Rd. (22nd Street) in Cicero. It was owned during the 1930s by William Johnson and Billy Skidmore, both major figures in gambling in the Chicago area, along with (by 1940) some 22 other gambling spots. The 4020 Club was Johnson’s first gambling property. Skidmore was also a long-time gambling kingpin, having been a leader of the North Side gang with George "Bugs" Moran during Prohibition. Skidmore served for years as the "outside man" – collecting the protection money from gamblers of all types – for the politicians in Cook County.
